EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fort Mill School District approved a policy letting employee children from outside its boundaries – including those from Rock Hill – enroll next school year. A fee of $500 applies for local residents and $1,500 for North Carolina residents.  Here Rock Hill

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina's new liquor liability law took effect January 1, 2026, letting bars and restaurants lower coverage from $1 million to $500,000 if they stop serving alcohol before midnight (with mandatory server training and ID scanners) to ease costs and boost safety for local businesses.  Here Rock Hill

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Set to open in fall 2026, The Lantern Hotel will occupy the historic Andrew Jackson Hotel site in downtown with 56 guest rooms, a restaurant, bar, private speakeasy, event space and private dining room, and it will partner with Winthrop University & LIFE program to offer inclusive job opportunities.  Here Rock Hill

SPORTS NEWS

  • Stone Furrey, a standout wide receiver from Dutch Fork High, has committed to the Gamecocks for the 2026 season. The local athlete, whose father coaches the team, recorded 55 receptions and a 4.46-second dash in Rock Hill today, boosting the offense for the coming season.  Here Rock Hill
  • Marquis Gillis, a standout running back from Delaware State University, transferred to Arizona State University on Jan. 7, strengthening the Sun Devils’ roster for a more competitive season (he rushed for 1,150 yards and scored seven touchdowns last season).  Here Rock Hill
  • At the Winthrop Coliseum today, the Eagles edged Charleston Southern 81-77 to mark their fifth straight home win (10-8 overall and 2-1 in Big South). Logan Duncomb led with 26 points, and the team will face South Carolina Upstate on Jan. 10.  Here Rock Hill
