EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lancaster County School District students swept the top three positions at the 2025 SkillsUSA Firefighting Statewide Competition. Caleb Barker of Lancaster High School earned first place while Vincenzo 'Vinny' Amore and Dylan Effren of Indian Land High School finished second and third (state champions will advance to nationals in June 23-27, 2025).  WRHI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina lawmakers introduced a bill (SNAP Nutrition Integrity Act) that would stop SNAP benefits from being used to buy candy and soft drinks, with Rep. Stephen Frank and seven other Upstate lawmakers supporting the measure. The restrictions will take effect six months after a USDA waiver is granted (lawmakers say they need the waiver since SNAP is a federal program).  WRHI
  • SCDOT started a Pothole Blitz to fix roads damaged by winter weather. Crews will work extra hours over the next several weeks to repair potholes and ask drivers to slow down near work zones (to help keep roads safe).  WRHI
