ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities are investigating the death of 27-year-old Hailey Bartlett from Fort Mill—found after her vehicle hit a mailbox on March 30 and taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead—with pathology and toxicology tests pending.  Queen City News

CRIME NEWS

  • Douglas McAlpine, a 37-year-old teacher and track coach at Rock Hill High School, was arrested on March 31 on five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor after digital files showing abuse were found—Rock Hill Schools placed him on administrative leave and confirmed no local students were involved.  Here Rock Hill
  • Deputies from York, Chester, and SC Highway Patrol stopped 7 drivers (including one DUI arrest) (before 11 a.m. on Thursday) on Highway 72 amid a blitz to curb aggressive driving.  Queen City News
  • Officials from the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, York County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol stepped up stops on Highway 72 in April to fight dangerous driving after a 2023 crash killed a local mother’s daughter and unborn grandchild; they gave tickets to over a dozen drivers and arrested one man for drinking and driving on Thursday morning.  WSOC-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rock Hill City Council will vote on a zoning proposal on April 14 at 6 p.m. to change the 220-acre Panthers site from master plan-commercial to industry general. City officials hope this change will attract new businesses, create jobs, and build on improvements like the new Exit 81 interchange on Interstate 77 that opened in 2024.  Here Rock Hill
  • South Carolina senators will hold a hearing on April 21 to decide if they will remove State Treasurer Curtis Loftis after an investigation found a $1.8 billion accounting error—he is accused of not reporting major financial issues, and his future in office will be decided by a Senate vote.  Here Rock Hill
