  • Rock Hill today celebrates the 90th anniversary of Passmore’s Grocery and Grill, which opened in 1935 and has served as a local hub with hearty meals such as hamburgers and fried bologna sandwiches. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pat Maness retired as principal at Cherry Park Elementary School in the Rock Hill School District on April 14th.  WRHI
  • Tega Cay Elementary School was named a 2025 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School after a rigorous evaluation (including stakeholder surveys and a two-day site visit) that confirmed its teaching excellence. The designation, valid for five years, makes it the fifth school in the Fort Mill School District to earn national recognition.  WRHI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Rock Hill will consider a rezoning proposal for the 245-acre area, now known as the Palmetto Research Park (the former Panthers facility site), which may shape the area’s future use.  Queen City News
  • After the Civil War, lawyer Amos T. Akerman used the 14th Amendment in York County to charge Klansmen with taking away rights—he got 55 men to plead guilty to denying citizens their voting rights. His battle shows how birthright citizenship was meant to protect all people in South Carolina.  WRHI
  • The Rock Hill City Council unanimously approved the rezoning of the former Carolina Panthers practice facility on Monday night, allowing 215 acres at 2394 Eden Terrace to switch from commercial to industrial use.
