CRIME NEWS

  • On April 20, a Rock Hill officer fatally shot two aggressive pit bulls on Heathland Drive in the Taylor Oaks neighborhood after the dogs attacked residents and pets+ officers later informed the dogs' owner and closed the investigation.  Queen City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rock Hill will launch a new development on Heckle Boulevard that is set to add 156 affordable homes for residents earning 60% or less of the median income—Greenway Residential Development is building the project with special financing from the Rock Hill Housing Authority. The new units will be available for leasing in the first quarter of 2026 and are part of the city's effort to ease homelessness.  Here Rock Hill
  • At its April 21 meeting, York County Council approved a $173.4 million general fund proposal for FY26 that will boost investments in quality infrastructure—especially in Parks and Utilities—while residents demanded a full audit and cease-and-desist order against Silfab Solar near Fort Mill schools; council actions also included approving contracts for sidewalk and intersection improvements and naming an interim auditor effective May 1.  WRHI
  • South Carolina State Senator Michael Johnson filed Senate Bill 530 to strengthen local zoning boards in the wake of disputes over the Silfab Solar facility in Fort Mill— the bill would cancel permits if zoning rules are not met and a companion House measure was introduced, while Johnson plans to push for a subcommittee hearing despite expected opposition from developers.  WRHI
