ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A severe storm hit Rock Hill recently with winds reaching 90 mph and golf ball–sized hail that damaged hundreds of buildings—experts from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety are testing stronger roofing materials to help protect homes in the future. Residents have already begun rebuilding as discussions on improved construction standards continue.  Here Rock Hill
  • Two minor earthquakes occurred near the state line with the stronger 2.2 magnitude event detected on Thursday at about 2:34 p.m. near Jaars and 16 miles east-southeast of Rock Hill while a 1.71 quake happened on September 24—state officials confirmed these micro earthquakes are part of the 16 recorded this year and noted they rarely pose a threat to safety.  Here Rock Hill

  • Today, Rock Hill is hosting a workers’ rights rally led by York County Rising along Dave Lyle Boulevard between East Main and East White from 2-4 p.m.+The rally calls for fair wages, healthcare, and affordable housing+volunteers will also run a food drive and voter registration booth.  Here Rock Hill
  • York County is considering new rules to limit hotel stays in a bid to improve public safety—local law enforcement says the changes could affect people who rely on hotels for temporary shelter while the County Council reviews the plan.  Here Rock Hill
