  • Hissho Sushi will relocate its headquarters to Rock Hill at 3621 Lazy Hawk Road + with a $5 million investment, it will add 146 jobs when operations begin in August.  Queen City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Award-winning actress Shanola Hampton, a Winthrop alumna, will return to her alma mater on May 9th—May 10th for special events. She will speak at an Evening with Shanola Hampton event at Winthrop Coliseum from 5 p.m.—6:30 p.m. on May 9th and address the Undergraduate Commencement at 10 a.m. on May 10th.  WRHI
  • Clover High School held its annual Military Signing Day on Monday to honor Class of 2025 students who will join the armed forces, military academies or college ROTC programs after graduation — the ceremony featured a presentation of colors by the Air Force JROTC, a flag-folding tribute and the awarding of red, white and blue honor cords to each student.  WRHI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 28, the Rock Hill City Council approved zoning changes, property conveyances, annexation measures, and recertified the Bleachery Site for redevelopment tax credits. The council also approved a Growth Management Incentive for a $15.7 million 60 unit affordable senior housing project on W. Main St.—the package requires a deed restriction and coordination with the Rock Hill Housing Authority.  WRHI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local families of murder victims say South Carolina's broken mental health system has put lives in danger, citing fatal shootings in Fort Mill and Rock Hill as stark examples. A new health report and local experts stress that the state must improve follow-up care and case management—Gov. McMaster has urged lawmakers to act.  WSOC-TV
  • During National Nurses Week, which runs May 6 to May 12, the DPH honors 96,260 licensed nurses statewide and recognizes 400 public health nurses who work in every county. In April, six DPH nurses received the 2025 Palmetto Gold award for excellence in public health, and South Carolinians are encouraged to thank their community nurses.  WRHI
