  • The Rock Hill community honored the lives of Andrew Wilkerson, age 28; Patricia James, age 86; and D. Jeffery Sligh, age 65, who passed away recently, with each remembered for their roles as a devoted family member, respected legal secretary and leader, and celebrated music educator — memorial services and tributes have celebrated their legacies.  Here Rock Hill

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hissho Sushi confirmed it will relocate its headquarters to 3621 Lazy Hawk Road in Rock Hill + create 146 new jobs from a $5 million investment, with operations set to begin in August. The new facility will also serve as a franchise training center.  Here Rock Hill

CRIME NEWS

  • A South Carolina man, Anthony Drayton, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a bank robbery at First Citizens Bank along Highway 160 in September 2023 after his mother tipped the police—officers arrested him weeks later.  WSOC-TV
  • Former Rock Hill officer Daniel Paul Shealy faces federal charges for receiving and distributing child sexual abuse material with his trial beginning May 5 at the Matthew J. Perry Jr. federal courthouse—he faces 11 counts of distribution, 6 counts of receipt and 1 count of attempted receipt amid allegations he used the Kik platform from December 2022 to September 2023.  Here Rock Hill

EDUCATION NEWS

  • York School District 1 approved three finalists for superintendent after completing interviews April 28-30—Heath Branham, Shane Goodwin, and Rodney Graves will tour schools and meet with staff on May 13, followed by a community meet and greet at Harold C Johnson Elementary School at 5:30 p.m.  WRHI

HEALTH NEWS

  • A raccoon near Edgefield and Strawberry Patch roads in York County tested positive for rabies on May 7 and the South Carolina Department of Public Health warned residents to avoid contact with wild animals. Officials advise pet owners to monitor their pets' health — contacting animal control or a veterinarian if unusual behavior is seen.  WRHI
