- ➤ South Carolina enacted the Kratom Consumer Protection Act on May 12 to regulate kratom sales, requiring stores to keep products behind counters and not sell them to anyone under 21. The law sets rules for product safety and fines for violations—retailers must now check age and meet strict standards. WRHI
- ➤ Governor Henry McMaster signed the Hands-Free and Distracted Driving Act on May 12, and the law will go into effect on September 1, prohibiting drivers from holding or using mobile devices while driving. The law allows hands-free devices for emergencies and begins with a 180-day warning period—after which a first offense will incur a $100 fine and further violations a $200 fine with license points.
