Food pantries across the Carolinas are under strain as USDA cuts have reduced supplies and led to fewer people being served—Champion House of Care in Charlotte saw its weekly clients drop from nearly 600 to about 300.
Local leaders, including those in Rock Hill, say that with schools closing for summer, a rise in demand could force pantries to cancel holiday meals if donations do not improve.
