- ➤ Rock Hill is celebrating a week of Pride events that started Monday night at The Mercantile and include plays, art shows, and community gatherings. - ➤ Cynthia the Cat, a one-year-old with a jet-black coat and orange eyes, and Bibby the Dog, a playful 5-year-old, are the featured pets at the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) in Fort Mill and are ready for adoption. - ➤ A tragic motorcycle accident early Sunday just after 4:30 a.m. about two miles south of Rock Hill on Catawba Church Road at Springdale Road resulted in the death of local 27-year-old Bailey Griffin—whose 2021 Harley-Davidson left the road and hit a ditch, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Service members in the South Carolina National Guard will see their tuition assistance increase to $12,000 per academic year starting this fall under the new state budget—full-time students will receive up to $4,000 per semester and the lifetime cap rises from $22,000 to $25,000. WRHI
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Transportation closed the right lanes of Interstate 77 Northbound at mile marker 82 over Cherry Road on June 16 at 10 a.m. — repairs were expected to be finished by the end of the day and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes. WRHI
- ➤ On Saturday, thousands gathered in downtown Rock Hill for a ‘No Kings’ rally to protest government initiatives and call for Congress to reclaim constitutional power—an event that was part of a nationwide movement.
