  • Camp Canaan in York County is recovering after Tropical Storm Helene caused seven feet of floodwater that damaged the camp’s multipurpose room, yurts, and welcome center.   • On July 10 at 3:09 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting at Dollar General in Sharon where a male suspect attacked a vehicle and the driver fired his legally carried gun in self-defense, with the victim dying on July 13 + the York County Sheriff’s Office and the Sixteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office have determined no charges will be filed.  WRHI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • BAYADA Home Health Care awarded York Technical College $600,000 to help address South Carolina’s rising nursing shortage by launching an apprenticeship program that offers hands-on home care training and scholarship opportunities up to $23,000. The program prepares students for various nursing roles—such as RN, LPN, and CNA—and will begin once applicants are enrolled.  WRHI

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Public Health has issued updated vaccine rules for school-age children for the 2025-26 school year. Fifth-graders must now receive two Hepatitis A shots given at least six months apart + students in grades 7-12 must get Tdap on or after their tenth birthday while eleventh-graders need two chickenpox doses unless they are already immune.  WRHI
