Good morning, Rock Hill.

Raising Cane’s opened its first Rock Hill restaurant on July 23 at 520 John Ross Parkway—set in a 2,800-square-foot former Bob Evans site that marks the chain’s fifth location in South Carolina.

The new drive-thru restaurant is part of the chain’s plan to expand in the greater Charlotte area, with management hiring already underway as local planning staff work on the permit.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with murder after the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jy Querious Catoe outside Adam’s Grocery on July 7—he faces additional charges including attempted murder and weapons offenses while authorities consider trying him as an adult.

On July 19, vandals damaged 12 mailboxes along roads including White Horse, Church, Rocklyn and Hopewell in Rock Hill—costing over $2,000 in repairs and prompting officials to ask residents with security footage to come forward.

Dr. Deborah Elder is the new superintendent of Rock Hill Schools—she brings over 30 years of experience and began her role on July 1 with plans to boost academic performance and restore financial stability after last year’s $15 million budget shortfall, while the district nearly filled its teaching positions in time for the fall semester on August 4.
