  • GE Appliances has announced an investment of over $3 billion to move production from China and Mexico to U.S. facilities, with gas ranges shifting to a Georgia plant, refrigerators moving to an Alabama plant, and heat pump water heaters being added at its Camden plant in South Carolina—this move will create more than 1,000 jobs over the next five years—and boost domestic manufacturing.  Here Rock Hill

CRIME NEWS

  • Walter Duncan (59) from Clover was charged with felony DUI with death after a four vehicle crash on Tuesday night on Highway 557 at Bethel Church Road in York County; a Chevrolet sedan was hit from behind by an SUV attempting a left turn, which resulted in one death and one hospitalization.  WSOC-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • David Lowry, the longtime Winthrop University organist and professor who taught from 1965 to 2012, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto—South Carolina’s highest honor—for his 55-year career in music and for co-founding the York County Choral Society in Rock Hill.  WRHI

  • A new study by the BEA shows South Carolina led the nation with a 1.7% GDP increase, driven by strong performance in construction, real estate, rental and leasing sectors and over 100,000 job openings statewide—local representatives expect future tax cuts and policy changes to boost growth as the BEA will update the study in late September.  Queen City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • American Honda has partnered with the South Carolina Waterfowl Association on a three-year project to support conservation and outdoor education by supplying ATVs and side by side vehicles—helping fund an ATV safety course at the Wildlife Education Center.
