  • Rock Hill mourned Pastor Harold Barton Smith who died on August 9 at age 56; he was known for his deep faith and care for the community—his memorial service on August 13 at 4:00 p.m. at Whitesell Funeral Home honored his life and legacy.  Here Rock Hill

CRIME NEWS

  • In Fort Mill, a 33-year-old FedEx driver, Marvin Naquan Mann, Jr., was charged with theft for allegedly stealing South Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off tickets on June 27—he tried to redeem them at a local Circle K store—and he was arrested on August 7 and released on bond.  Here Rock Hill
  • Walter Duncan, who is 59, was arrested and charged with DUI resulting in death—possession of marijuana and driving while suspended—and is in jail on no bond after causing a deadly four-car crash near Clover on Tuesday on Highway 557.  WRHI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Classroom Central opened its doors yesterday to local teachers to provide free classroom supplies for the new school year—helping them replace essential items they often run out of. The nonprofit supports educators with its free store on Wilkinson Boulevard, ensuring classrooms have what they need without extra cost.  WCCB Charlotte
  • Rock Hill School District added 41 new buses to boost its fleet to 111 for the 2025-2026 school year; the buses will cover 719 daily routes to improve student transport.   • Rock Hill Schools and Winthrop University launched a new Business & Leadership Dual Enrollment Program on August 12 that lets high school juniors earn up to 36 college credits while taking courses in writing, economics, and accounting.
