  • Renowned artist Jim Shore will open a museum and gallery covering 22000 square feet in downtown Rock Hill by late 2026 at 109 Hampton Street—investing $3 million to create 40 to 60 jobs—and will showcase over 30000 artworks while supporting local artists and community programs for military families, first responders and children in hospitals.  Here Rock Hill

  • Winthrop University launched a new scholarship program for first-generation college students from underserved communities—eligible students received up to $5,000 per academic year with applications opening in January 2024 and awards distributed in fall semester 2024.  Here Rock Hill
  • Winthrop University honored the legacy of Vivian Ayers Allen, a celebrated poet and educator who died at 102 on August 18. She broke barriers in academia—becoming Rice University’s first Black full-time faculty member and inspiring future generations with her work Hawk.  Here Rock Hill

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Rock Hill Police Department raised its starting salary to about $61,000 and York County Sheriff's Office increased its deputies' pay to over $53,000 after a 5% raise—moves intended to boost recruitment amid nationwide challenges. Detention officers also saw their starting pay rise to $48,597 to help retain qualified staff.  Here Rock Hill
