- ➤ Indian Land will welcome three new stores in October with Lowes Foods opening on October 9, Target debuting on October 12, and Costco starting on October 30—local officials will adjust traffic and propose a 1% sales tax to fund road projects. - ➤ Gov. McMaster declared a state of emergency Friday as a tropical system moved off the coast of Cuba — it is set to become Tropical Depression Imelda by tomorrow and may bring heavy rain, strong winds and flooding to the Carolinas. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MUSC broke ground Friday in Indian Land for a new hospital and a medical pavilion on 84 acres at 9280 Charlotte Highway, a half-mile south of Marvin Road. The pavilion will open in 2026 and the hospital will start in 2027 to offer services (including OB-GYN, orthopedics, and cardiology) that may reduce the need for local residents to seek care across the state line. - ➤ Tomorrow evening, the Winthrop University men’s and women’s cross country teams will race at Winthrop Farm with the men’s race at 6:00 p.m. and the women’s race at 6:45 p.m.—Coach Raffael Craig said the event will feature a new course designed by Coach Fiol to help the teams prepare for the upcoming conference meet.
