Tartan Residential secured $32.3 million in construction financing for the Johnston Farms development— a 120-unit workforce housing project in Rock Hill aimed at renters earning 50% to 80% of the area median income.

The project, which includes a $23.5 million HUD loan and reserves 10% of units for combat-disabled veterans, will open in the second quarter of 2027 with amenities like a community center and energy-efficient features.

Rock Hill is set to see the redevelopment of an abandoned storefront purchased for $190,000 by Southern Street Development and vacant for five years; the 1947 building will be converted into office space on the first floor and a new second floor added.

The City Council approved the first reading to designate it abandoned— a final vote on October 27 will decide its future— which may boost local economic activity.

Winthrop University’s volleyball team defeated Charleston Southern in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday, marking their fourth Big South win and extending their historic series lead; the team will face Presbyterian today.
