  • On March 25, Rock Hill held its annual Volunteer Celebration to honor hundreds of volunteers who provided nearly 18,000 hours of service to Parks, Recreation and Tourism programs. Awards were presented to volunteers including Halle Russell, Shauntoria Currence, Blake Davis, the 2024 BMX Racing World Championships team, and John Coleman, with remarks from PRT Director Mark Sexton and Mayor John Gettys.  WRHI

  • Nathan’s Famous opened its new restaurant in Rock Hill on February 13th, offering a New York-inspired design and a state-of-the-art drive-thru to serve hot dogs, juicy burgers and the unique Rock Hill Ripper.   • Police in Clover said shots were fired at Roosevelt Park on Wednesday night while a youth baseball team was playing and no one was hurt—three men in a 2021 black Hyundai quickly drove away.  WSOC-TV

  • Winthrop University will host its annual Spring Festival on March 30 — an event featuring art, live music, and local food vendors — that will bring students and residents together to celebrate creativity.  Here Rock Hill

  • A small wildfire erupted north of Clover on March 27 and burned about 20 acres — local fire crews and the South Carolina Forestry Commission contained it by 5:10 p.m.  Here Rock Hill

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SC Daily Gazette reported that the Senate passed a law on Thursday that will double auto insurance minimums to $50,000 for property damage and $100,000 for injuries — effective two years after the law is enacted. The change means drivers with only the bare minimum will have to pay more for coverage — officials say the update will offer better protection in serious accidents.  WRHI

  • Rock Hill High School is hosting a Blue Out event to honor Candy Joldersma — a stage 4 colon cancer patient — and create a comforting outdoor space called Candy’s Garden for her family at an upcoming game against Catawba Ridge; students and parents will join to raise awareness during National Colon Cancer Awareness Month.  Here Rock Hill
  • A Rock Hill man said his colonoscopy found a small polyp—his doctor said it might have turned into cancer—and he wants others to get tested during National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. He urged residents to follow new guidelines that now recommend starting screening at age 45.  WCCB Charlotte
