Good morning, Rock Hill.

A York County man won $180,000 in the Palmetto Cash 5 lottery last week by matching all five numbers even though he usually chooses his own; his winning ticket, bought at Arch Mart in Rock Hill, will earn the store a $1,800 commission — officials say the surprise win shows how quickly fortunes can change.

The Catawba Nation said during a tour on June 17 that the first phase of its long-awaited casino resort in Kings Mountain is set to open in March and will feature 1,350 slot machines, 22 table games, a 40-seat restaurant, a bar and sports-betting kiosks.

The full casino facility will open in February 2027 — replacing the temporary casino used since 2021 off I-85’s Exit 5.

Rock Hill is holding a public auction this Saturday at 10 a.m. with Classic Auctions, where residents can bid on police cars, SUVs, garbage trucks + heavy equipment.
